Visiting Policy

It is the policy of Decatur County General Hospital to allow patients to have visitors at anytime that is conducive to good medical care.

  • As a part of our commitment to provide a family-centered environment,

  • Decatur County General Hospital holds minimal restrictions on visiting hours.

  • All entrance doors will be locked at 7:00 P.M. Entrance must be made in front of the nurse’s station.

  • Infants and small children are discouraged from visiting the hospital. This is for the physical and emotional well being of the children as well as the patient.

  • Children will be permitted to visit the patient care areas only when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children should not be left unattended in the waiting rooms or other areas of the Hospital.
  • A parent or guardian must stay with a pediatric patient overnight.

  • The hospital allows for the presence of a support individual of the patient’s choice unless the individual’s presence infringes on the patient’s or other’s rights, safety, privacy or is medically or therapeutically contraindicated.

  • Private rooms are limited to one visitor overnight except in very unique situations. Efforts will be made to provide sleeping accommodations for this visitor.

  • Semi-private rooms are assigned male/male and female/female. To ensure the privacy of these patients, overnight visitors are not allowed except in very unusual situations. In this unique situation, the overnight visitor must be of the same gender as the patient. Patients and families may request to be placed on our private room list and will be notified and moved upon availability.

  • Nursing service personnel may ask all visitors at times to step out when delivering clinical patient care or during times that patient requires privacy.

  • The hospital reserves the right, at the discretion of the charge nurse, to ask all visitors to leave when she feels they are not contributing to the welfare of the patient in the hospital. If the visitor refuses to leave, the SWAT team and/ or law enforcement will be notified at once.

  • Check any gifts of food or beverages with nursing personnel to be sure they are permitted on patient’s diet.
